LGBTQ+ Couples Counseling
in Nashville
Your relationship should be celebrated, not tolerated.
In this part of the country, it can be nerve-wracking and even dangerous to seek counseling as a same-sex or queer couple. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA2S+ partnerships because I believe queer folks deserve more than surface-level "affirming" care. In my office, you never have to question whether your relationship will be seen as equally worthy. I'm here to help you build the strongest, most secure partnership possible based on the values and principles that matter most to you.

Research suggests that only ~12% of mental health providers identify as LGBTQ+ themselves. As a proud member of this community, I understand some of the unique challenges queer folks face and how those challenges impact our intimate partnerships.
Many same-sex and other "non-traditional" couples are trying to build securely-functioning relationships without any role models or representation to draw upon. While this can be liberating in and of itself, it can also make the work of couples counseling uniquely challenging. The frustrating reality is that the overwhelming majority of research in the couples therapy field focuses on heterosexual marriages and other partnerships.
Therapists who try to push their queer clients towards a universal standard of relational health may inadvertently reinforce cis- and heteronormative cultural standards that leave LGBTQ+ folks feeling misunderstood, judged or broken. Even well-meaning clinicians can contribute to this sense of otherness despite their best efforts.
In my work with LGBTQIA+ couples, my goal is always to meet my clients where they are rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach to the counseling process. How can I support your partnership if I lack even a cursory understanding of your shared purpose, vision and principles? I believe curiosity and collaboration are paramount to the counseling process — for myself and for my clients. As an LGBT couples therapist in Nashville, I consider it a privilege to support other members of my community in their efforts to craft life stories and love stories that accurately reflect who they are and what they believe.
